♡ 31 ( +1 | -1 ) World Championship ProposalRuslan Ponomoriav proposes a 6 player match-tournament for the world championship. The participants include himself-Kasparov-Anand-Kramnik-Leko-winner of FIDE knockout tournament. This would occur Dec 2004-January 2005.
♡ 48 ( +1 | -1 ) World Championship proposal......How about if there are elimination rounds both from FIDE and the PCA(?) which Kasparov founded with both champions playing for a world championship round ala American Football? Once both the NFL and the AFL has their respective champions, they play the Superbowl to determine the world champion.
However, both players must not play just 1 game because of the possibility of draw. Maybe a best of 5 games?
Any comments, whether cronstructive or destructive is welcome.
♡ 99 ( +1 | -1 ) Absolute WCHNonsense. Why the hell should he be included, if he run away from another match? Why the hell should Kasparov be included? Kramnik is the World Champion, if he wants to return to FIDE, they should arange a match between FIDE Champion and Kramnik. The winner is the absolute WCH. Then a normal contender cycle has to be aranged, so that Kasparov, Anand and Ponomariov can participate. Now the contender for Steinitz - Kramnik title is Leko, if he beats Kramnik, then he holds the title. FIDE has it's own title, it can be unified with the classic title but, I don't see how Garry Kimovich fits in there. They both are/soon will be the ex-world/FIDE champions with no rights for rematch. They are ordinary GM's and has to go all the way as everybody else.
P.S. I absolutely understand that none of this is possible due to top GM's personal reasons. Ponomarion is afraid, Kasparov is too proud, Kramnik is not respected, Leko can't do anything anyway, Anand has psychological and PR problems with playing against Kasparov (he can't afford to lose again).
♡ 27 ( +1 | -1 ) i've heard of some Prague reunification plan, with matches between kramnik, leko, kasparov, the to-come-Fide-champ and maybe some others(bobby fischer;-), the two winners of that will hold a reunification-or-something worldchampion match. ??
♡ 93 ( +1 | -1 ) ckytepClassically World Champion is the one who beats the previous World Champion in a match. There is a big difference between match play and tournament play (and there is a huge difference between round robin and swiss tournament play). Kasparov is the best tournament player in the world (it is shown by his rating). Nobody knows how would he do in a swiss tournament, but we do know he lost a match to Kramnik. Kramnik proved that he is better match player than Kasparov. Kramniks style suits match play beteer, cause Kramnik doesn't lose often, at it is enough to scor +1 to win a match, but in a Wijk-aan-zee or Linares it doesn't guarantee a win. In Aeroflot Oopen it is disasterous result. My point is -- Kasparovs high rating does not mean that he is the strongest player in the World. It shows that he hass had the best result in tournament play in recent years. It doesn't show anything else.
♡ 29 ( +1 | -1 ) As much as I respect Kasparov, I completely agree with soikins. Whether it is nonsense or not, Kasparov is not a WC, he lost the title to Kramnik, and he is a mere pretendent now. He shouldn't be treated in any speacial way and his high rating shouldn't have anything to do with this whole unification thing. IMHO
