Does it tick anyone else off? i have just won 2 team games cos my opponent timed out after 15 & 16 moves, i probably had a very slight edge with the white pieces & a slightly greater advantage with black.
I know it is not always easy to make your moves in the required time, but you have the option of a postponement. Like probably a lot of others on the site am trying different moves and openings, & i would prefer to play the game to a conclusion win lose or draw!
To time out in a team game seems even odder.
Okay i will stop ranting now!!

I agree dave,
When an opponent times out in a team match, although your team gets the points, it is still difficult to avoid feeling thwarted. Timing out in team matches is so sad in my opinion it's almost a tragedy. I can understand why some teams will not tolerate it at all.

It seems to me ordinary courtesy that people offer some sort of explanation or apology for 'timing out'. It can be inadvertent, e.g. forgetting which time control is in operation, say, or one's machine being u/s for too long. That sort of thing is forgivable. But I form the impression that it's being used simply to withdraw from a game. I've noticed tho' that opponents have withdrawn from games in which neither they nor I have had any discernable advantage... Can't think why. I've not observed any appreciable diminution of their GK activity, though... ):-(

one of the guilty parties when it comes to timeouts, team games and others. There are circumstances which mean I don't get the chance to postpone games and, to be honest on those occasions, logging on to GK to postpone is the last thing on my mind. If you look at my profile I have a very high % timeouts, all due to the same situation. I have been a member of 2 teams and felt very badly every time I timed out on a team game. For that reason I resigned from my last team and will not join another until my situation settles. Please do not judge all people with high timeout rates badly, some of us do have a genuine reason.

I have never timed out in my 950 games because I always put up a vacation flag if there's the slightest chance I won't get to my computer on time. I can be more understanding of people who don't have reliable Internet connection, or those who don't live near a public library where they can go in case of computer failure, but I still contend it's not hard to avoid timing out.
