Hi, I'm using chessbase 9 and I want to create a french-only database out of a quite large overall dbase. So I set up a position with e4 e6 d4 d5 and hit the reference tab. The search brings up a huge amount of games - somewhat in the 50-100000. I copy those to the clipboard, create a new dbase and then copy them from the clipboard to the new dbase.
And that takes ages!!! Why?
If I just copy 100000games from one dbase to another, it's normaly done in a minute or so - why does it take so long when copying from the clipboard.
Is there another way to copy just french games?
any help is greatly appreciated.

I did the following steps and it took about a minute:
1) created a database without indexes
2) searched my main database of over 3 million games for all French Defence games
3) selected the games from the list
4) right clicked the list and hit copy
5) clicked on the new database and hit paste
6) 180000 games were pasted into the new database
The % complete and time remaining went nuts as the number of games copied passed 65K. Using the clipboard or having indexes already created greatly slows this type of operation.
Hope this helps

@wolston: thanks, I'll try that as well.
@bogg: I just tried it again - probably I need some more detailed infos.
1) create dbase w/out indexes: thats right click - new dbase and then rightclick on the dbase - extras - erase indexes, right?

I create a new database via the new dropdown. File -> New -> Database
Make certain that it is a cbh not a ctg unless you mean to create a tree. Trees take a long time!
Creating a database without indexes is what happens when you create a new database. I simply meant to not copy in a set of index definitions from an existing database after creating the database.
In step 4 make certain to select copy and not copy to clipboard.
Step 5 should have stated right click, sorry. (paste is under edit)

ok, then I did it right - still takes so long... I heard rumors of hd-speed of laptops being pretty slow but I wouldn't have guessed that it can take this kind of proportions. It will take me literally hours to get this done!!
